In East Asian cultures, the crane, a mystical and holy creature, is a symbol of purity, good fortune, and “hope”. Legend has it that if someone folds a thousand paper cranes, the crane will grant him a wish, such as longevity, recovering from a serious illness, or an injury. For many, this activity evolved into a healing mechanism to displace negative energy into “hope”.
