Whenever I listen to music with my headphones on, I feel I am in my own world. I can feel the beat of the music synonymous with my heartbeat and physiology. Studies have shown that slow-paced music may lower heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure. The opposite is true. It’s really fascinating how we can control our mental and physical states with the type of music we listen to. So whenever I feel upset, I close the door of my room, put my headphones on, and pop on some upbeat music. It’s just me and my world, as I feel my heartbeat sync to the beat.
