Anchor Symbol – R.G, 17 year old

An anchor is a heavy device usually made of metal used to secure a vessel to the bottom of a body of water in order to prevent it from drifting away due to the wind or current. However, the symbol of the anchor has also symbolized hope for centuries. In ancient times it portrayed safety, strength, and security because it holds a ship in place during storms, but eventually, the anchor was also famously used as a way for Christians under Roman persecution to exhibit their religion. By tattooing or wearing the symbol, they were able to represent that they were firmly anchored in their beliefs no matter how much chaos and uncertainty they were facing. Furthermore, the anchor illustrates hope because of the fact that when lifted from the water, it represents a new voyage and adventure, and the opportunity to set sail on a new journey.
